雪女的孩子叫雪童子，在日本认为雪童子就是带来冬天第一场雪的妖怪。雪女皆生性冷酷，是山神的属下，掌管冬季的雪。脆弱，柔美，伤感这三种情绪构成雪女的灵魂，幼年的雪女对人无害，成年的雪女会将其喜爱的人类男性永远冰冻起来，带回居住的山洞中摆放起来，供其观赏。
